The pandemic has completely altered the way we live and interact with each other and has affected seniors more than any other age group. Social distancing can be isolating, but with these 5 social distancing activities for seniors, you can make a difference in your patient’s life.

1 – Movie Night

Find a movie that your patient loves or might not have seen in a while and get the popcorn ready! Make the night extra special by printing out a movie ticket for them to create a full theater-going experience. If you’re technologically savvy, there are many streaming service applications that allow users to stream movies with friends and family.

2 –  Crafts

Crafts are a great way to encourage creativity and are a great way to connect with your patient. Knitting and crochet are two easy to learn crafts that you can start with your patient. The crafts they make can be gifted to friends or family of the patient or put on display inside the home.

3 – Exercise

Exercise is an important part of improving and maintaining mental and physical health, especially for seniors. If possible, a simple 10-minute walk can improve heart health and improve your patient’s mood. Another simple way to get your patient active is through stretches that you can do daily.

4 – Read

Starting a book club with your patient is a fun and effective way to keep your patient mentally healthy. If your patient has weak eyesight or a short attention span and cannot read a traditional book, try an Audiobook instead.

5 – Game Night

A weekly game night is a great way to bond with your patient and also keep their mental skills sharp. Change up the games each week to keep things fresh and exciting.While social distancing can feel incredibly limiting, these 5 simple activities for seniors can truly make a difference in your patient’s life.
